This session, co-taught by Cadence Okuwobi and saxophonist Angie Coyle, is one of the most hands-on of the series, with students focusing on building self-promotion materials like websites, resumes, social media accounts, and business cards! The session will start with an overview of career paths musicians can take, from pit orchestras to private studios. The session will then transition to finances, giving students sample contracts and tips for navigating taxes, insurance, and retirement as musicians (which runs on a different system for gig workers). Students will spend the rest of the session working on their promotion materials with step-by-step instructions and help from the co-presenters. We ask that all students bring a computer to this session and be ready to use platforms like Canva!

Yes! Please RSVP through the google form so that we know who is coming and can plan accordingly.
Kind of. This is one of our sessions where homework is assigned, but no materials are due from the last session. You can find the homework assigned in the requirements section.
Students can create online drafts of their resumes and business cards for free through district-paid platforms like Canva. For the website, it will depend on the quality of website students want, and we will provide options tailored to every student's level and budget. For students seeking a straightforward and free platform, we'll provide a Google Sites guide. For those looking for a more advanced and modern site, we'll offer guides on WordPress and Wix.
