This session, co-taught by Cadence Okuwobi and saxophonist Angie Coyle, is a must for students considering a music career and offers the opportunity to think critically about what a career in music actually looks like. The session will start with an overview of career paths musicians can take, from pit orchestras to private studios, and opportunities for students to begin in those careers now. The session will then transition to finances, giving students sample contracts and tips for navigating taxes, insurance, and retirement as musicians (which runs on a different system for gig workers). Students will spend the rest of the session learning about promotional materials and outlining a musical resume and bio. We ask that all students bring a computer to this session and be ready to use platforms like Canva and Google Drive!
